About

Membership

You do not have to be a member of the Canadian Library Association (CLA) to attend our general meetings or to participate in our events. However, if you wish to become a member of the Dalhousie CLA Student Chapter, you must become a member of the CLA.

The CLA Student Chapter at Dalhousie is your link to all of the services, advocacy efforts, and networking opportunities that the CLA has to offer.

Objectives

Our chapter aims:

  • To provide a forum for the opinion of the members of the chapter;
  • To promote communication and cooperation among members of the chapter, between students and faculty, and between students and members of the professional community;
  • To support members in all areas of their professional development;
  • To support chapter involvement and social activities connected with the Canadian Library Association (CLA) and other local library associations (i.e. Nova Scotia Library Association, Atlantic Provinces Library Association, Halifax Library Association, etc.);
  • To forge partnerships with and encourage cooperation between chapter members and the professional community.

The Canadian Library Association

The Canadian Library Association is the national association that represents those who work in or advocate for Canada’s estimated 21,000 libraries. CLA members work in college, university, public, special (corporate, non-profit, and government), and school libraries. Members also sit on boards of public libraries, work for companies that provide goods and services to libraries, or are students in graduate level or community college programs. We encourage you to visit the CLA website for more information.
